I never would have known about Frank Gardner or his work shop, had I not seen a little blurb in the paper, about 12 guys that had painted on Monhegan Island, and Port Clyde, Maine. The group was having a reception at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis Port. It was in the middle of winter, and I was looking for any excuse to get out of the house, and to have someone else's cheese and wine, along with viewing great paintings, and chatting with the artist, sounded like a real good deal.
I met Frank at the reception along with Jerome Greene, Colin Page, and 6 or 7 of the other artists. I was told that Frank lived in San Miguel, so I mentioned to him that i was in fact going to San Miguel in three weeks, for about 10 days. Frank told me he was having a 5 day work shop around the same time.He said it was full, but would call me if there was room. He found room and I went.Quite a coincidence. Jerome Greene also went. I visited with Jerome several times during the summer, and have stayed in touch with him. Jerome told me that he had just returned from San Miguel a few weeks ago. This time the group that painted in Maine, went down to San Miguel for 10 days and painted around there. He told me that Frank made arrangements for them to stay in a 20,000 sq. ft. mansion. Way to go Frank.
If you want to look at the stuff the guys did in Maine, I think you can find it through the Addison Gallery, in Orleans, ma. If you want to see some of the San Miguel trip., you can google Colin Pages blog.
